ajalakan

Species: fangs
Place: oil well basin
element: fire

The Ajarakan is a highly aggressive and agile monster that resembles a scaly monkey. It uses its powerful forearms to navigate rocky environments, hang from ledges and leap onto unsuspecting melee hunters. It is most active during fire hazards in the Oil Well Basin, and will ignite the protrusions on its back when threatened to inflict fire blight on its enemies. Due to its cantankerous nature, you’ll often find it getting into fights with other monsters that intrude on its territory.

Ackerveld

Species: ancient dragon
Place: unknown
element: unknown

The Arkveld is the flagship monster in Monster Hunter Wilds and one of the toughest challenges for both new and experienced hunters. Also known as the “White Ghost”, it was long thought to be extinct, although it remains a threat throughout the Forbidden Land. Arkveld uses armored chain attachments attached to his forearms in combat, the thick hide of which is difficult to penetrate. It’s also capable of flight, so keep an eye on the skies if you’re hunting this beast. As an apex predator, it has no hesitation in taking on huge threats like Rey Dau. Our advice? Just get out of the way.

Monster Hunter Wilds Release Date: Barajara is a sandworm-like creature with fins that help it swim in the sand.

barajara

Species: Leviathan
Place: windward plain
element: water

These territorial sandworms penetrate deep into the desert sand sea to ambush their prey. While Barajara are difficult enough, they often form groups to overwhelm larger monsters and trap hunters in quicksand traps. You’re no safer on solid ground, either – Barajara can climb up rock walls and spit out dirt and oil from afar, causing water blight and shattering your stamina.

black flame

Species: unknown
Place: oil well basin
element: fire

As the top monster in the Oil Well Basin, Black Flame is a huge fire octopus whose body is covered with oil slicks and can be ignited at will. Its massive tentacles are reachable, capable of grabbing sluggish hunters with an iron fist and strangling the life out of them. Finally, if all this isn’t enough to give you pause, the Black Flame can – true to its name – release fire from its mouth, inflicting fire blight on anyone caught in the blast.

Monster Hunter: Wild Release Date: Chatakabra is a cross between a bullfrog and a gorilla, with scaly skin and a sticky tongue.

Chatakabra

Species: Amphibians
Place: windward plain
element: unknown

Chatakabra is a cross between a bullfrog and a gorilla. When threatened, it will charge at its foe, delivering a vicious flurry of blows from its massive fists, knocking the hunter to the ground. Its drooling tongue enables it to devour prey from a distance. It can even use the adhesive properties of saliva to reinforce its forelimbs with rock armor to make its punches more powerful.

Kangalala

Species: fangs

A familiar monster to any seasoned hunter, the Kangalala returns in all its burping, farting glory to threaten hunters in the open world. Its ape-like musculature means it prefers bashing enemies in melee combat, but the body gases it releases are the real threat in its movements. These attacks cause stench, a status ailment that prevents you from using items. Thankfully, you can neutralize its effects with deodorant, but that won’t do much to combat the hiccups Kangalala might get from eating the mushrooms she stole from your bag.

Monster Hunter Wilds Release Date: Doshaguma is a hybrid between a lion and a bear. It has no eyes, but can be a larger form with red mane or a smaller form with yellow mane.

tusha bear

Species: fangs
Place: Windward Plains, Scarlet Forest

The doshaguma is a territorial lion-bear that typically roams the plains and forests as part of a herd, so if you need to eliminate a lion-bear, it’s likely it won’t be alone. Its massive size and strength are its key features in combat, as it uses its powerful claws and teeth to lash out and bite. It can also hurl monster corpses at hunters, knocking them to the ground and leaving you vulnerable to forward charges. You can identify Alpha Doshaguma in a herd by their larger size and red face; they are also prone to aggression, so if you don’t want the herd to attack you, fight with them Keep a certain distance.

Lala Barina

Species: temno cape
Place: scarlet forest

Lala Barina may not be suitable for those with arachnophobia, but its furry appearance somewhat offsets its creepy crawly nature. When threatened, Lara Ballina’s chest opens to reveal a beautiful but deadly rose in bloom – but don’t admire it for too long. This slender creature can spin scarlet threads from its mouth to trap idle hunters, then lash out with its venomous stinger and jaws. It also sprays hairs from its belly that can paralyze hunters on contact, so be sure not to venture into its lair unprepared.

Mattrice

Species: Savage Wyvern
Place: windward plain
element: fire

Quamatris is a crested wyvern that resembles a cockatrice with fiery scales and a similar temperament. You’ll often find it fighting other monsters over food scraps, and once it takes enough damage, you’ll be in a good position to pounce. Because its forelimbs are short, it relies on its powerful hind legs to walk, so it can easily lose its balance at close range. It secretes flammable oil from its tail, which automatically ignites when hit, so don’t be tempted to swing it around when fighting this large beast. Its moves include a flaming tail slam attack that shoots a stream of fire across the battlefield, inflicting fire blight on any hunters caught in its wave.

fire dragon

Species: flying dragon
Place: windward plain
element: fire

The Fire Dragon is actually the mascot of the Monster Hunter series, so it’s no surprise that it’s back in the wild. This aggressive wyvern controls the skies, swooping down and threatening any creature that enters its vast territory with a snapping jaw and a blast of fire. In addition to fire blight, it can inflict poisoning through its venomous claws, which can drain the life of even the most ferocious hunter. While the Fire Dragon can be a real pest, ample antidotes and ranged weapons will help you eliminate it.

Monster Hunter Wild Monster: Rathian

La Zion

Species: flying dragon
element: fire

The Earth Queen returns in Monster Hunter Wilds, and the fearsome Lathian is even better at dealing elemental damage than her male counterpart, Latalos. Between her powerful fire abilities and poisonous tail needle, you’ll need to stock up on antidotes and other protective gear if you want to survive the encounter. Like the Fire Dragon, you’ll need to carry a ranged weapon with you to pluck the Fire Dragon from the sky.

Ray Dow

Species: flying dragon
Place: windward plain
element: lightning

The Rey Dau is the apex predator of the Windward Plains, so don’t harm its bad side if you want to survive. Its golden scales and massive size can withstand lightning, allowing it to absorb the storms of sand tides and unleash devastating charges from the tops of its horns. This attack causes Thunder Blight and crystallizes the sand on its wings into glass blades, giving it combat capabilities. However, it’s not just ranged lightning you need to be aware of; Reydao’s massive wings are a weapon in themselves, tearing hunters into ribbons every time it swoops down from a great height.

Monster Hunter Wilderness Monster: Rompopolo

Rempopolo

Species: Savage Wyvern
Place: oil well basin

Rompopolo has some very peculiar anatomy for a savage wyvern. While it may have the classic T-Rex combination of tiny arms and thighs, its mosquito-like proboscis and balloon-like elements make it a terrifying creature. Not only can it spew poisonous gas from its mouth, but Rompopolo can also use its body like a bellows to pump the gas into the ground, causing explosive eruptions that can cause devastating damage if you’re unlucky enough to get caught in one.

usduna

Species: Leviathan
Place: scarlet forest
element: water

Uth Duna is the apex predator of the Crimson Forest, rivaling Rey Dau in terms of deadly monsters. While it doesn’t look as deadly as its top cousins at first glance, it can use a protective barrier built from body fluids and environmental moisture to reinforce its already thick cortex. As a result, Usduna is most active during heavy rains, able to quickly breach high water levels and pummel hunters. Uth-Duna’s most devastating attack, however, is when it erupts from the surface of the water, belly flopping onto its enemies, crushing the target and causing a tidal wave that knocks any other enemies off balance.
