AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT benchmark leak shows it beats Nvidia RTX 4080 Super

AMD may have largely ignored the RDNA 4 graphics cards it unveiled on the big stage at CES 2025, but the leaker didn’t. fresh AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Benchmarks The specs seem to hint that this new card will indeed be a serious contender when it launches.

The leak includes two 3DMark tests, an indication of the card’s total motherboard power, and a discussion of its overall impressive performance. In the grand scheme of the best graphics cards of 2025, the card is still positioned as a mid-range offering, with the RTX 5090 far ahead, but AMD’s latest look will bring super-charged performance levels to the Nvidia 4080 in some cases, according to these leakage.

The original source of these new AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT performance leaks was the Chiphell forums, where admin user nApoleon posted screenshots of 3DMark benchmark runs and GPU-Z information, as well as posts advising users not to rush out and buy Nvidia. Based on the results they published, they claim that the graphics card “world” has “completely changed.”

However, the images were removed shortly after being posted, leaving only the original text, making it look rather mysterious. Instead, other Chiphell forum members and leakers elsewhere have done their part to get it done.

Chiphell forum member Zhang Honghao added that the total board power (TBP) of the new cards appears to have increased significantly compared to earlier card samples. They said the motherboard was initially expected to draw 265W TBP, but new leaks suggest it will reach 330W. That’s still well below the 575W the RTX 5090 is expected to require, but it hints that AMD’s latest offering certainly has plenty of power, despite its affordable price and mid-range positioning.

In addition, the TBP of the public version seems to have been improved, and it was only 265W at the beginning.

Meanwhile, X (former Twitter) users @Wukongmyth2460 and @0x22h retweeted the original image, allowing us to see the raw data that led to all this speculation.

From one of the images, we can see an overall 3DMark Time Spy Extreme score of 14,591, published alongside GPU-Z measurements of GPU clock speed, memory clock speed, and more. While the overall score for such test runs will vary depending on factors such as the CPU used, the vast majority of the tests rely on the GPU, which gives us a reasonably representative view of the die’s performance.

So we can see that compared to the 14,451 points the Nvidia graphics card received in the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super review, the RX 9070 XT is actually a few percent ahead of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super.

However, another image shows the more demanding 3DMark Speedway benchmark, where the AMD card’s performance was less impressive. We didn’t use the Speedway test in our benchmarks, but compared to other sources that use this benchmark to test the RTX 4080 Super, we can see that its scores are generally around 7,500 points, well ahead of the 9070’s 6,345 points. . In fact, this Speedway test shows that the 9070 XT can’t even topple the Nvidia 4070 Ti Super.

However, as one leaker also points out, it’s still early days and the drivers aren’t fully finalized yet. We’ve already seen the benchmark for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 delivering 99FPS at 4K resolution, which is the limit of the stock RX 9070, so it stands to reason that the XT version should add an extra performance boost.

As for the GPU-Z data shown along with the benchmark, it detects the RX 7800 XT, but the specs shown are very different from that card, leaving a lot of room for it to actually be a new, unreleased card. If true, this means the card can increase its clock speed to at least 3,060MHz, while the base clock will be 2,520MHz. Ultimately, though, as with all other leaks, nothing has been confirmed by AMD, so it’s likely far from accurate.

Even though AMD’s next-gen flagship cards are leaking, CES 2025 is still going on and there are still plenty of new devices to be discovered. Announcements like Nvidia’s RTX 5000 series may have grabbed most of the early headlines, but examples like this stunning Asus CPU cooler with a wraparound screen are still gems to be discovered.
