DBD’s new crossover with horror icon adds some of its creepiest skins yet
dead by dawn If you want some multiplayer horror gaming scares, this is still the number one destination. It also has some of the best crossovers in gaming if you ask me – always either tonally correct or surprising. DBD’s latest collaborative skin collection is inspired by the works of horror manga legend Junji Ito, and they’re one of the most disturbing skin collections in the game to date.
The eight new Deadline by Daylight skin line announced late last year are all based on characters from Ito’s excellent, weird, weird comics. Whether you’re familiar with his work or not, I’m sure the designs of just a few of these skins will pique your interest. I sincerely think some of Ito’s characters deserve to be seen as standalone killers or survivors in popular horror games rather than just cosmetics, but I also appreciate that they may not have the mainstream appeal of something like Ghostface, Alien Force, Alan Wake, or, uh, Nicolas Cage had it.
The Junji Ito Collection features legendary skin combinations from two of the game’s killers. The first was created for “The Artist” and depicts the twisted Miss Fuchi from “Mannequin.” The second transforms the spirit into arguably Ito’s most popular and best-known character, Tomie. Both come with unique recordings that make them even more unique and certainly creepier.
The other three killers are also getting Ito-inspired skins, but these are on lower tiers and don’t have custom audio. The twins became grotesque depictions of the Hikizuri siblings, Hustlers portrayed Soichi with a court jester-meets-voodoo doll type look, and Digger got what might be my favorite skin, the Torment of the Half-Soul, which combines several haunting Oblivion’s body and face merge to create a walking nightmare.
On the Survivor side, Kate Denson gets a creepy ballerina skin inspired by Marionette Mansion, and Yun-Jin Lee transforms into Terumi from the comic Hanging Balloon (Terumi), while Yui Kimura got a look similar to Tsuskiko from the Tomie series.
Behavioral Interactive said of its partnership with Junji Ito: “It’s always a big moment when a legend of the horror genre leaves his mark on Dead by Daylight.” The studio is once again honoring the source. Great job with the material and creating some truly creepy content.
The Junji Ito Collection is now available in Dead By Daylight. You can view the artwork for all the skins here.
