Doom launches as a roguelike in this brutal FPS game at the lowest price ever

BPM: bullets per minute It is a roguelike FPS rhythm game inspired by “Doom”. While this may sound like a random mashup of genres, I hope developers like Awe Interactive never stop trying, because BPM is a very unique experience. It’s currently included in the Speedrunning with GDQ Humble Bundle, so you can get it for just $1.71/£1.35.

If you’ve ever played a game with music playing at the same time and enjoyed matching action to rhythm, you’ll love BPM: Bullets Per Minute. It’s on our list of the best rhythm games, but unlike most of the other games in our roundup, you’re not penalized for missing a beat, just more rewarded for hitting one. Essentially, it plays like any of the best FPS games, but with an added twist: if you shoot, jump, or dodge to the beat of the music (which sounds awesome), your shots will become More powerful.

The game also takes a page from the best roguelikes, dropping you into randomly generated mazes every time. The monsters and weapons/power-ups you face also change each run. In essence, BPM: Bullets Per Minute is the answer to the question “What if Crypt of the NecroDancer was a gritty first-person shooter?” It’s a very difficult game and I felt a huge sense of accomplishment just after completing practice mode, but it earns a high level of challenge by offering such a fun loop.

As the Speedrunning with GDQ Humble Bundle suggests, the game is also great for speedrunning (although you’ll have to be very skilled at it). Here’s a complete list of everything included in the bundle:

  • wish you a happy death
  • Ori and the Blind Forest
  • sonic lost world
  • shenmue 1 and 2
  • BPM: bullets per minute
  • The story of the new super lucky guy
  • Condemnation: The Roots of Crime

This bundle gets you 93% off the game’s MSRP, but you can only take advantage of it until Friday, January 17thdo so in 2025. Once that date has passed, there is no guarantee that the bundle will be available again.

I’m a big fan of recommending indie games that might otherwise go overlooked, especially when they’re priced so well. You can check out our Steam Sales page for the latest specials.
