long story short

  • Zugu is selling a $1,500 bundle that includes an 11-inch iPad Pro M4, a case, a smart ring and access to its apps.
  • If the smart ring detects that you have passed away, the iPad can choose to clear your web browsing history and brick itself to protect your privacy.
  • iPad also offers social features, such as rolling with loved ones and posting last-minute tweets via linked accounts.

CES 2025 is one of our favorite ways to discover new tech, including the ridiculous, dystopian, and niche. Zugu creatively combines all three qualities into one product. For just $1,500, you can own an iPad Pro M4 now that will bring joy to your friends and family after you’re gone.

Zugu is now for sale (via TechCrunch), an In Case of Death bundle that includes an 11-inch iPad Pro M4, a case, a smart ring, and access to its companion app. When you pass away, the smart ring detects this and triggers the functions you selected on your iPad. These include deleting your Internet browsing history and bricking your iPad so no one can access your data or use the tablet.

In addition to privacy-related measures, the iPad also has the option to Rickroll your loved ones through endless video playback and post a final tweet from your account after your death. The default tweet reads: “Offline permanently, bestie. Literally. Don’t forget to like and subscribe to my obituary #LastPost #NoFilter #NoHeartBeat #RIPme.

Zugu stresses that the ring can detect when you take it off to recharge, and will only consider you dead if several conditions are met. The company explains: “If the user’s heart rate suddenly stops and body temperature and blood oxygen levels drop sharply, the smart ring will know that the user has died and send a signal to the ‘Death Case’ app to trigger ‘death’. The protection chosen when the user first registers and sets up the application.

Interestingly, the $1,500 bundle includes AppleCare Plus coverage in case your iPad Pro dies before you do. It’s also worth noting that “for connectivity reasons” you need to be an iPhone user to use the product.
