Galaxy S22 Ultra

long story short

  • Many Galaxy S22 series users are facing random boot loops, and since the phone is out of warranty, Samsung is replacing the motherboard at a certain cost.
  • As a stopgap measure, users luckily placed their phones in the refrigerator to revive them. Once the phone returns to ambient temperature, the phone will start cycling again.
  • We’ve reached out to Samsung for comment on the issue and its strange solution.

The Galaxy S22 series is one of the top Android smartphones out there, and these phones have enough performance headroom to keep them at the top for a while. So it’s no surprise to find that people are still using these phones. However, as the phone ages, more and more users are encountering a Galaxy S22-specific issue where the phone enters a boot loop. Believe it or not, the solution to get out of this boot loop is to put your phone in the refrigerator (!?!).

Do not put your phone in the refrigerator. We do not endorse this solution. This news article only provides information about recent issues and does not constitute advice or recommendations of any kind.

Reddit user Then_Whole_4146 encountered an issue where their Galaxy S22 randomly started booting in a boot loop. Other users have also shared their experiences, and it has been proven that placing the phone in the refrigerator helps to temporarily break the phone out of the boot loop. However, as Reddit user Pleasant-Apartment84 mentioned, their Galaxy S22 went back into a boot loop after it started to heat up again, eventually also experiencing the green line issue. However, this time is enough for the user to get important data from the phone.

We found other posts discussing this issue on Reddit and Samsung Community Forums, and This is a weird temporary solution. The solution apparently also comes from YouTuber WorldofTech, who posted about it March 2022. When some users sent their phones to Samsung for repair, the company replaced the motherboard so the problem didn’t appear to be related to the battery.

There have been many other recent reports of boot loops on Galaxy S22 series phones (1, 2, 3, 4), with some users linking the boot loops to the recent One UI 6.1 update. Since Samsung stopped selling the Galaxy S22 series some time ago, most users have expired the warranty period. Therefore, Samsung’s customer service ended up quoting a relatively high motherboard replacement fee.

We’ve reached out to Samsung for comment on the boot loop issue with the Galaxy S22 series and how to fix it by placing it in the refrigerator. Please note that we do not endorse placing your phone in the refrigerator as any type of solution as you run the risk of different issues such as condensation and damage to the battery and other internal components.
