long story short
- Gemini’s new compact overlays feature a more colorful look with the latest design changes.
- Improved overlays feature a more prominent glow around the text box and microphone button.
- Color overlays appear to be rolled out via a server-side update, but are not yet widely available.
Shortly after Google launched its redesigned compact Gemini overlay last month, we spotted another design change in development that makes contextual overlays more colorful with prominent glow animations. This updated design is now rolling out to users.
According to recent reports on Reddit, the updated Gemini overlay has started to become available to users. It’s not widely available yet, but it should gain more users in the coming days.
As you can see in the attached screenshot, the updated contextual overlay has a prominent glow animation around the text box and microphone button, giving it a more eye-catching appearance.
This updated design is reminiscent of the new Siri animations Apple debuted with the iOS 18.1 update last year. However, the Gemini’s glowing effect is limited to the overlay and doesn’t cover the entire display.
The colorful Gemini overlay appears to be rolled out via a server-side update. Currently, this feature is not available on any of our devices, even with the latest Gemini app update and Gemini Advanced subscription. We expect it to roll out to more users in the coming days. In the meantime, please leave a comment to share your thoughts on this new design.
