Google’s embrace of artificial intelligence brings us many interesting and useful innovations in 2024, but one of the coolest has to be NotebookLM. In addition to providing a very convenient way to organize notes and information from various sources, the tool also introduces an impressive audio overview feature, generated through an artificial intelligence-driven host that is customizable in nature. podcast. Now, Google is taking the same approach to keep you informed.

Today, Google announced a new experiment in its Search Lab called “Daily Listen,” which is basically just a summary of news on trending topics.

If you choose to try this experiment, Google will pull content from similar stories that your interactions with Discover have shown you are interested in, and produce a concise summary of the latest developments. All in all, your daily listening should contain everything you need to know in a summary of five minutes or less.

Daily Listen is available for testers to try out in the Google app on Android and iOS. As you can see in the screen above, in addition to the spoken audio summary, Daily Listen also provides you with a handy transcript, which comes in handy if you need to confirm details. Or, if you just missed something and need to repeat it quickly, playback controls let you jump back or manually seek to any point you like. You can even control the speed if you need to compress those five minutes further. In fact, perhaps all we can ask for beyond that is the ability to steer the conversation in the direction of some topic.

Remember: You need to choose to test experimental features like this, so go ahead and click on the Erlenmeyer flask icon in the corner of the Google app to step through the settings and start experimenting with Daily Listen for yourself.
