Inspired by Hades, the new Roguelike Rogue Loops brings a new twist to the entire genre

I love that Hades continues to inspire so many new roguelike players. Supergiant Games’ version of Greek mythology boasts some of the tightest gameplay of its kind, unique storytelling and challenging progression, and more and more developers continue to use it as a clear inspiration for their own titles. We may have reached the point where there are too many games like Hades on Steam to parse, but that just means we have too many choices. Today I bring you another form rogue cyclewhich puts a twist on the genre with delightful new ideas, and you can try the demo now.
If you’ve played Hades, you know what to expect from Rogue Loops. It’s an action roguelike where you play from an isometric perspective, fighting enemies with a range of abilities, dodges, and attacks, giving you a unique build with each run. As you’d expect, there are plenty of enemies, bosses, NPCs, and skills to combine, making each run feel distinct. As part of a family stuck in an infinite loop (sounds very familiar), you need to keep moving forward until you finally escape.
However, when you start picking buffs, that changes. Just like in Hades, you can find new abilities to help shape your next endeavor, but every ability in Rogue Loops also comes with a curse. These curses vary in difficulty and implementation, but each comes with a trade-off you’ll need to be consistent with your buffs and current build. You may gain an ability that increases your movement speed, but it also spawns barrels in each room that explode and deal damage when you touch them. You can also gain some valuable currency, but there will be traps in the room. Therefore, you need to carefully consider whether the risks associated with each upgrade are worth it.
As for the Rogue Loops demo itself, it gives you quite a few action sequences. You’ll venture into the swamp biome, which serves as “the last refuge for other heroes trapped in the loop.” Rogue Loops will have five levels, each with its own bosses and challenges, but you can feel free to replay the swamp in the demo. The story will be limited, however, as developer Fubu Games wants to present the narrative as a complete experience. Your saves will also be preserved, so any relics, talents, and progress you earn will be available throughout the game. Just don’t accidentally delete your saves.
The Rogue Loops trial is now available on Steam, with a full release planned for Season 2 of 2025. You can download the demo here.
