New Amazfit Active 2 adds bright display, enhanced sensors for under $100
what you need to know
- Amazfit launched the Active 2 Round fitness watch at CES 2025, starting at $99 ($129 for the premium version).
- Compared to the original square-shaped Active, the Active 2 features a new circular design, superior brightness, and a new sensor.
- Key features include 160 sport modes, offline maps, Zepp Coach AI, daily preparation scores and NFC payments (Europe only).
The Amazfit Active 2 smartwatch is the brand’s latest budget option for fitness watch enthusiasts who find the Amazfit Balance a bit too expensive. Launched at CES 2025, the Active 2 sports a traditional circular display, eschewing the boxy look of the 2023 Amazfit Active and the rugged design of the Active Edge.
The Active 2 features several key upgrades over the original Active, including a 1.32-inch, 2,000-nit display that’s as bright as leading fitness watches, yet costs three times as much and actually clocks in at 353 nits per inch. The resolution density of pixels beats most watches.
The new HR sensor has 5 photodiodes and 2 LEDs, which is fewer than Balance’s 8 PDs, but matches the latest T-Rex 3 and is much more accurate than the previous generation. Active 2 also adds a gyroscope, an altimeter for altitude data, and an ambient light sensor for adaptive brightness.
The new sensors support “nearly 40 new exercise modes” that rely on elevation data (i.e. stair climbing, skiing) and gyroscopes for more accurate exercise data (i.e. 25 automatically detected strength exercises, golf swing tracking).

Amazfit says the Active 2 has a battery life of up to 10 days, but that’s only for “typical use,” not “frequent use” as the brand puts it. Most of the best Amazfit watches are rated to last two weeks per charge, so the Active 2 may have a shorter lifespan. Despite this, its service life is still much longer than that of traditional smart watches.
The Active 2 will come in two versions, with the “Premium” model adding a “black leather strap and flexible sapphire glass screen cover” as well as a spare silicone strap in the box for $129. This version will also be the only one that supports NFC payments, but Amazfit says this version will only be available in Europe. The standard version only has 2.5D tempered glass.
Like the original Amazfit Active, the Active 2 also comes with a microphone and speakers for Bluetooth calls or conversations with Zepp Flow AI. Likewise, it has five GNSS for location tracking, but only offers standard GPS instead of the dual-frequency GPS found on more expensive models.
If accuracy is paramount, you may want to upgrade. At the very least, you’ll be able to download offline maps and route files with route navigation, something the original Active doesn’t offer.
You can pre-order the Amazfit Active 2 now, and it will ship on January 13 in the US and in February globally. It’s a good time for budget fitness watch fans in the U.S., with Samsung releasing the Galaxy Fit 3 here after a year of waiting.
