Pure rock crawling looks like mud running without the dirt

Pure rock crawling refers to driving an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain. Just hit the gas and twist the steering wheel so that you lean forward and over the obstacle instead of tumbling backwards. This is Mud Run without the mud, a simplicity likely brought about by its one-man development team. It launched last October but I had never heard of it until today, when new maps were added and now I want to play it.

The Steam page has the features you want: soft body physics on the tires, suspension you can adjust as if you know what you’re doing, and a range of different types of terrain to roam freely. The newest terrain is a map called Ghost Mine, which is based on photogrammetric assets created by the game’s creators after a trip to Death Valley.

Pure Rock Crawling appears to have been released in Early Access in April 2018, with 1.0 released in October 2024. stop.

I loved Spin the Tires when it came out about ten years ago, but lost track of it when it became mired in controversy and was replaced by Mud Run. Whether you’re riding a big rig or an off-road vehicle in a game like Trials, there’s something immensely satisfying about getting up and over obstacles. I’m not interested in high scores or improving my grades, but I will definitely try to pull myself up a hill.

Pure Rock Crawling is launching with a 50% discount to coincide with the release of the new map, and at the time of writing is priced at £6.39 / $7.49 / €7.39.
