Reflecting on 2024 – Experiential eLearning

2024 is the year I try out artificial intelligence and learn how to actually use it at work. I use artificial intelligence more frequently as a brainstorming partner and writing assistant as well as image generation. This shift in my work is reflected in what I’ve been blogging about this year. According to statistics on popular content, artificial intelligence is also what people are interested in reading.

Blog Statistics

In 2024, I will continue to write and publish on the blog, publishing an article every Tuesday.

  • 52 posts
  • 54K words
  • 92,000 visitors

According to my word count plugin, I have published over 500,000 words on my blog since 2006.

This year, I published 20 new posts, 14 revised posts, 11 linked posts, and 8 podcasts and newsletters.

The traffic to my blog has been quite stable this year. I continue to get about 10K to 15K views per month.

LinkedIn engagement

One of my goals this year is to post on LinkedIn more frequently because my blog posts on LinkedIn often get more comments and engagement than my actual blog.

  • 411K impressions (well, that’s mostly a meaningless vanity metric, since “impressions” includes everyone who scrolled past a fraction of a second.)
  • 9K Engagement

Impressions and engagement on LinkedIn are loosely related to my blog traffic; many people like posts on LinkedIn but don’t click on the link to read the actual post. I’ve also received comments from people who haven’t read the article. In addition to my own blog posts, I also work on sharing other resources on LinkedIn, which also increases my engagement. Sharing helpful tools and resources seems to resonate well on LinkedIn. I plan to continue curating links next year, and I may try other post types as well.

Blog and website updates

In addition to writing weekly blog posts, I’ve also been working on updates behind the scenes. I migrated my blog to SiteGround hosting in June. My previous web host had over 8 hours of downtime and very little communication. I was so frustrated with this experience and some of the challenges with the course site that I started migrating all three sites.

My previous blog theme also suddenly stopped working this summer, so I changed the theme. You can see the old theme in an archived version of the site. The new theme isn’t a huge change, but it also allowed me to fix a few issues with the previous theme.

I also spent time this fall completely revamping my business website and portfolio. This is a long overdue update. Not only is the style outdated, but the content needs an overhaul. I had several pages with service offerings that weren’t converting at all, and the copy didn’t reflect my current niche. I updated the description of the service to focus more on creating scenario-based learning. My new website also highlights my talks and workshops. I also added a new page for booking coaching sessions. I’ve been offering one-on-one coaching for several years, but I’ve done a terrible job of marketing this part of my service. I still have a list of tweaks and improvements I plan to make on my site next year, but this is a huge improvement from a year ago.

Top Blog Posts of 2024

My blog post about generating images in Midjourney was one of my popular posts this year. My post about creating consistent character imagery in Mid-Journey has been viewed over 11K times.

In addition to my posts on how to use artificial intelligence, some long-standing topics are also popular: e-learning, portfolios, and time estimation for scenarios. All of these posts have been viewed more than 2,500 times this year.
