The Apple MacBook Air M3 may be the latest and greatest, but we generally recommend the M2 version to most people. We think it can bring you more bang for your buck. Most people won’t notice the upgrades that come with the new model, and it will save you a ton of changes for the perfect balance of quality and value.

Apple’s M2 chip is very powerful. I actually got this particular model over the holidays and I use it to edit RAW photos and 4K videos. I didn’t experience any sluggishness or hiccups. Many of our colleagues are Android Authority and our sister sites, sound guyhave similar experiences.

The Apple MacBook Air M2 and M3 actually have more similarities than differences. In fact, the design is the same. This computer features a metal construction, a great backlit keyboard, a large glass trackpad, and up to 18 hours of battery life. Even the screen is the same, a 13.6-inch display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,664. The panel can also reproduce the DCI-P3 color gamut, making it an excellent choice for creatives, media consumers and anyone who cares about color accuracy.

At only $799, it’s definitely a better deal for most people. Most people won’t even notice the upgrade on the M3 model, and you can save $100 on something else.

Aside from the chip, the only real difference is that the newer model has Wi-Fi 6E instead of Wi-Fi 6 on this model, but again, that’s something most users won’t even notice. The microphones have also seen some improvements, as newer models feature voice isolation and enhanced clarity.

Now, if you do want to upgrade to the M3 model with 16GB of RAM, you’ll get even more performance. This can be a good advantage if you frequently perform resource-intensive tasks, such as editing and playing games.

Additionally, it’s upgraded to Wi-Fi 6E instead of Wi-Fi 6. Practical operations require that much bandwidth. Wi-Fi 6 is already fast. Oh, and there have been some improvements to the microphone, as newer models have voice isolation and enhanced clarity.

Other than that, the laptops are pretty much the same. You get the same aluminum design, slim profile, great portability, great backlit keyboard, large glass trackpad, MagSafe charging port, display and up to 18 hours of battery life.

Is the $100 difference worth it? We wouldn’t say that for most people, but some users may need an extra performance boost. There are also intangible benefits, like knowing you have a newer device and potentially getting a year longer of support.

These Apple MacBook Air deals disappeared for a while after the holidays, so it’s nice to see them back. That said, if you want to grab one of these MacBook Airs at a great discount, we recommend you act quickly. We don’t know when prices will recover.
