Starbucks Medicine Ball Tea Recipe

Sharing is caring!

Starbucks Medicine Ball Tea, also known as Honey Citrus Mint Tea, is designed to boost immunity and relieve sore throats during flu season. It contains two different types of tea: honey and lemonade, and is served hot. I’m making my own version of medicine balls, mine are a little healthier but also relieve cold symptoms. Made with simple ingredients and much less sugar than the original, my Starbucks medicine ball recipe is a must-have hot drink on those days when you’re not feeling your best.

What are Starbucks medicine balls?

Medicine Balls are a tea launched by Starbucks in 2017 and can only be found as a secret menu item at Starbucks. It’s now on the regular menu and is called “Honey Citrus Mint Tea.” The original Starbucks pill drink ingredients are Teavana Peach Serenity Tea and Teavana Jade Citrus Mint Tea, steamed lemonade and a touch of honey. Currently, since Teavana tea is no longer available, Starbucks uses a different tea bag, which has not yet been disclosed. The website says it contains a “blend of ingredients” including apple, green tea, rosehip, lemon, verbena, spearmint, natural chamomile flowers, licorice, lemongrass and natural flavors. It is served as a hot drink.

Below is a list of ingredients based on the Starbucks menu.

injection [WATER, APPLE, GREEN TEA, ROSE HIPS, LEMON VERBENA, SPEARMINT, NATURAL FLAVOR, CHAMOMILE FLOWERS, LICORICE, LEMONGRASS]lemonade [WATER, LEMON JUICE, SUGAR, LEMON OIL]mixed honey [HONEY, WATER, NATURAL FLAVORS, POTASSIUM SORBATE, XANTHAN GUM, CITRIC ACID]

Why make your own medicine balls?

The number one reason I make my own exercise balls at home is to cut down on the sugar. According to the Starbucks website, the Honey Citrus Mint Tea contains 30 grams of sugar due to the steamed lemonade. While my version isn’t as sweet, it’s actually good for your body when it comes to fighting off a cold. Plus, as you can see from the ingredient list, there are some other questionable items we should avoid when we’re sick.

Another great reason to make your own medicine ball tea is to save money! 16 oz. for $4.60. Herbal tea, I think I’ll pass on that. Making medicine balls at home on the cheap is the best option!

I also like to tailor my herbal tea selections to how I’m feeling in the moment. There are lots of great options out there that work equally well with lemon and honey!

By making your own medicine ball tea, you can use fresh lemons and high-quality honey to make your tea as healthy as possible. Freshly squeezed lemon juice is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which are extremely beneficial to the immune system.

The last reason is that you can easily have all of these ingredients and make medicine balls in the comfort of your own home anytime!

Herbal tea options:

I usually don’t choose peach tea or green mint tea, but choose the organic herbal tea “Throat Coat”. You can easily find it at your local grocery store. It contains a blend of spearmint, slippery elm bark, eucalyptus, marshmallow root, and licorice. Throat tea can be enjoyed on its own, but adding lemon and raw honey really turns it into a cold drink tea! I will say that this is not the tea I would choose if I wanted something delicious and comforting. It has a very medicinal taste.

According to Traditional Medicine: For generations, slippery elm has played an important role in Native American herbal medicine, just as eucalyptus has played a role in Australian Aboriginal herbal medicine. This unique blend harnesses the long-lasting power of two traditions to provide support for the throat and chest. A harmonious blend of herbal wisdom.

I also use green tea as it is a very beneficial tea with powerful antioxidant properties. Likewise, if you’re looking for something that tastes great, you might prefer a more flavorful tea like Apple Cinnamon Chamomile.

You can also use plain chamomile tea, plain peppermint tea, and/or rosehip hibiscus tea.

In fact, any combination will work as long as it is an herbal tea.

Optional ingredients and ingredient substitutions:

  • If you want a sweeter drink, add more honey to your preference.
  • I like to add fresh mint to my tea. You can also add a drop of organic peppermint essential oil.
  • Another optional ingredient is to add a few slices of ginger to your tea to enhance its medicinal properties, but be aware that ginger is spicy and may cause a sore throat.
  • If you don’t have fresh lemons on hand, you can use lemon juice, but remember, fresh is always best.
  • You can add more or less lemon juice.
  • If you are looking for a tea with high medicinal properties, you can use Manuka honey instead of raw honey, which has incredible benefits. Note that while it’s very good for you, it has a tea tree-like flavor and isn’t as delicious as regular raw honey.

My homemade Starbucks medicine ball recipe is the perfect healthy hot tea drink on a cold day. With the cold season just around the corner, this comfort drink is a great way to support your immune and respiratory systems. For the health benefits, be sure to choose my low-sugar option and skip the Starbucks version!
