Ubisoft delays the release of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows again

After experiencing a delay that pushed it from last winter to February of this year, Ubisoft has now revealed: Assassin’s Creed Shadows Delayed again. While the pushback isn’t as big this time around, the delay comes after Ubisoft’s “strategy and execution review” concluded, which it hopes will help turn around the game’s poor performance.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will be another massive open-world game in the series, this time set in feudal Japan, and is increasingly looking like a make-or-break game for Ubisoft. Skull and Bones failed to impress, Star Wars: Desperados under-sold many gamers, and its fun but struggling FPS game XDefiant is no longer available and will be released soon. Complete closure in June.
Shadows needed to be a success, and most players were understanding of the first delay, which resulted in the new Assassin’s Creed: Shadows release date being set for February 14th. Planning, February is quickly becoming a very busy and crowded month. Shadow finds itself sandwiched between games like Civilization 7, Monster Hunter: Wild, Yakuza: Pirates of Hawaii, and Avowed.
In the statement Ubisoft released today, it didn’t give February’s crowded slate as a reason, but I can’t help but feel it was a factor. Instead, it says that the team behind Shadows has been given “an extra month of development time.”
“This additional time will allow the team to better integrate player feedback collected over the past three months and help create the best conditions for launch by continuing to work closely with the increasingly positive Assassin’s Creed community.”
The new release date for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is Thursday, March 20.
“We all support our team’s efforts to create the most ambitious Assassin’s Creed title in the series and have decided to give Shadows an extra month of development time to better incorporate player feedback collected over the past three months. thus allowing us to realize the full potential of the game and complete [financial] This year has been a strong one,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.
