Wear OS might get better assistants than it currently has

what you need to know
- Gemini can replace Google Assistant on Wear OS devices.
- A new APK teardown of the Google App beta shows how Google plans to roll out the feature this year.
- It’s unclear when this feature will be launched, or whether it will include extensions and support for Gemini Live.
Google seems to be working on its artificial intelligence promise to integrate Gemini into everyday life, as it slowly completely replaces the Google Assistant on phones.
Now, Google seems ready to take it a step further. According to a recent APK teardown of the latest beta version of Google App, Version 16.0.5the tech giant seems to be bringing the power of Gemini to your wrist through Wear OS. According to the code discovered by 9to5Google, this will help users “get more done by easily chatting back and forth with the Assistant on the watch, reimagined by Google AI.”
This essentially means you don’t have to take out your phone, and you can have a natural conversation with your Wear OS watch through what we assume is Gemini (although it’s unclear whether this includes Gemini Live). Whenever you need to find a nearby restaurant, check the weather, or navigate heavy traffic, users can just say “Hey, Google,” and Gemini will respond.
However, it’s unclear whether the watch will provide visual feedback for users’ queries. But the strings in this beta update definitely give us hope that “easier” times are coming.
It remains to be seen when users will get this Wear OS update – possibly via a Google app update or via a major platform update in the near future. Android Central has reached out to Google about the possibility of using Gemini Live on Wear OS, and we’ll update this article once more information becomes available.
In the meantime, you may see other updates from the beta version of Google apps on your Android phone, including (per APKMirror) using voice commands while navigating, even if there’s no internet on your device. It’s also easier to access privacy settings from the home screen by clicking your Google Account profile picture.
