To help you achieve the fitness goals you set for yourself this year, Apple is launching several new updates to its Fitness Plus service. These updates bring a range of new content to Apple devices as well as new integration with Strava.
In a blog post, the Cupertino company announced that it will enhance its Fitness Plus offering with a variety of new experiences. Specifically, these experiences involve yoga, strength training, and meditation programs.
For those looking to improve their flexibility, the company is adding a feature called Peak Yoga Pose. This is a yoga retreat style workshop designed to help hone your skills and complete challenging poses such as Dancer, Twist to Big Toe and Crow Pose. “For each pose, there is a 10-minute preparation process to prepare the user for the corresponding 10-minute practice.”
If you’re more interested in building strength, Fitness Plus has launched a new three-week strength program called Perfect Three Weeks of Strength. This is a guided program containing a dozen 30-minute workouts that target each major muscle group. You’ll experience progressive overload in the first week, stress time in the second week, and dynamic power in the final week. Apple explains that the program is designed to be repeatable, allowing you to complete the program again with heavier weights. In addition to this, Apple also launched Pickleball’s strength, endurance and agility program. The program features professional pickleball champion Catherine Parenteau and offers a mix of workouts inspired by her training regimen.
On the meditation front, the service is running an introductory breath meditation program. The program includes five different breathing techniques and takes 10 minutes. In addition, “breathing” has also been added as a meditation theme in Fitness Plus, bringing the total to 12.
Meanwhile, new and existing members of the popular fitness app Strava will have something new to share. Users can now share their Fitness Plus workouts to Strava, which will display details such as episode images, episode numbers, music genres, trainer names and metrics. You can also share your workouts with the community. Apple said it is offering up to three months of Fitness Plus for free to Strava subscribers.
A few other fun tidbits were announced, like a new selection of Apple’s celebrity-led Time to Walk audio stories, a new workout takeover with guest trainer Alex Wong, and a new workout playlist. These playlists include Janet Jackson (January 13), Coldplay (January 20), Bruno Mars (January 27) and Kendrick Lamar (February 3).
