DIY Simple Christmas Star Ornaments Using Cards (Template Included!)

By far my most popular holiday craft are these easy DIY Christmas star decorations. Not only are they quick to make, but they’re also incredibly cheap. I actually made some of these stars using recycled cardboard packaging, and not only do they look cute, but they’re free! Every little bit helps make the Christmas period a little more magical while taking the pressure off your bank balance.

Another huge benefit of recycling old packaging to make these Christmas stars is the benefit to the planet! No one needs more plastic embellishments when paper and card can do the job so beautifully. You can also color them, add gold foil, or even get the kids involved in creative craft activities. This is a great way to get them involved and into the Christmas spirit!

Here’s a video of how I made them using the full tutorial and template below:

instruct:

  1. Print the template onto A4 paper at 100% scale, then cut out the stars and corresponding diamond shapes to the size you need.
  2. Use the template to cut 1 star and 4 diamonds from the material of your choice. This can be anything from an old cardboard box to a milk carton to a ketchup tube. Be creative!
  3. Fold the diamond in half so that the farthest points come together (so across the center line rather than with it) and cut along the center line.
  4. Slide the triangles onto the 4 points of the star so that the fold is in the center of the star, with 1 point missing between each triangle.
